T-MARC is implementing the “Badilisha Tabia, Tokomeza Malaria” project in Simiyu and Shinyanga regions to promote awareness and health-seeking behaviors related to malaria prevention, testing, and treatment. Funded by Comic Relief and GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), the two-year project aims to improve malaria control efforts in these areas.

The midline survey, conducted in January 2020, involved 861 households, 861 respondents, 6 community focus group discussions (FGDs), 24 health workers, 3 vector control personnel, and 8 Local Government Authority (LGA) staff across four districts (Bariadi and Maswa in Simiyu, Msalala and Kishapu in Shinyanga). This survey followed a baseline study carried out in late 2018 and early 2019.

The midline survey focused on assessing the current knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) regarding malaria prevention, diagnosis, and treatment among beneficiaries. It also evaluated KAP among antenatal care (ANC) health workers and identified barriers to malaria prevention, testing, and treatment. Additionally, the survey explored the use of larvicide in select districts and examined the role of community health workers (CHWs) in malaria control, including their effectiveness, barriers, and community acceptance. The data collection methods included semi-structured interviews, FGDs, and in-depth interviews (IDIs).
