The "Promoting Safe Sex among Adolescents in Tanzania" project seeks to reduce the high prevalence of teenage pregnancy, early marriage, HIV, and sexually transmitted infections (STIs) among adolescents in Tanzania. Despite previous public health efforts, many adolescents continue to lack access to sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services and education.

The midline evaluation conducted in 2017 aimed to assess the progress and impact of the project, focusing on the effectiveness of supply-side and demand-side interventions, such as access to contraceptives and SRH education.

DAMAX Solutions, in collaboration with BRAC Maendeleo Tanzania, provided mobile HIV Testing and Counseling (HTC) and STI screening services to youth in the Empowerment and Livelihoods for Adolescents (ELA) program across Dodoma, Iringa, and Mbeya regions.

This phase evaluated changes in HIV and STI prevalence, along with shifts in adolescents’ awareness, attitudes, and behaviors concerning safe sex practices. The midline evaluation provided critical insights into the success of the intervention and highlighted areas that needed further attention to improve SRH outcomes.
