A qualitative study was conducted by DAMAX for Abt Associates to gather data that will help understand the patterns and extent of condom acquisition behavior (i.e. brand loyalty or switching), purchasing decision drivers (i.e. pricing, location etc.), and assess how willingness to pay varies across different condom attributes.
The study recruited participants in the urban districts of Dar es Salaam (Kinondoni) and Mwanza (Nyamagana MC), and rural district of Iringa (Mufindi DC) regions. The study methods involved 16 Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) of homogenous male condom users segmented by age and social economic status (SES) and a conjoint analysis based on a semi-structured exercise at the end of the FGD sessions.
