Access to clean water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) is critical in healthcare and school settings in Tanzania, yet gaps remain—18% of health facilities still lack water services, undermining safe childbirth and increasing the risk of infections like sepsis. In schools, only 58.4% provide even limited WASH services, often lacking gender-sensitive infrastructure, which contributes to girls’ absenteeism during menstruation. These challenges continue to affect public health, particularly for women and children.
To address this, WaterAid Tanzania (WAT) is implementing a five-year strategy (2023–2028) focused on integrating WASH into Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child, and Adolescent Health (RMNCAH) programs. As part of this initiative, Damax Solutions is conducting a national-level assessment to identify entry points, evaluate WASH integration, and develop strategic recommendations.
The assessment includes a SWOT analysis and the development of hygiene behavior change (HBC) themes and policy asks to support sustainable and inclusive WASH services. The goal is to enhance quality care, prevent disease, and inform effective WASH integration into national health strategies.
