In Tanzania, the effectiveness of school Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) programs has been a pressing challenge. As of 2018, only 58% of schools had access to improved water sources, leaving many students reliant on unsafe or distant supplies that jeopardize their health and education (WHO/UNICEF, 2018).

To tackle these issues, DAMAX conducted a comprehensive study to evaluate school-specific conditions, including water sources, utility costs, WASH infrastructure, and maintenance capacities, while also assessing water quality and planning for anticipated school expansions.

Focusing on Dodoma, Mbeya, and Tanga; cities grappling with water supply issues, inadequate sanitation, and pollution, DAMAX utilized a cross-sectional study design combining quantitative data collection and observations.

Covering 366 primary and secondary schools, the research provided actionable insights to inform policy and interventions, addressing critical gaps in WASH infrastructure, enhancing student health, and creating conducive learning environments.
