This study, conducted by DAMAX, aimed to investigate the drivers behind the stagnation and low uptake of modern family planning (FP) methods in Tanzania.
The research employed a mixed-methods approach, integrating both qualitative and quantitative data to identify barriers and facilitators affecting FP uptake among women of reproductive age.
It also examined trends in international and domestic FP financing from 2015 to 2022 and explored the impact of the political environment on public beliefs and perceptions regarding modern contraceptives.
Data were collected across 11 regions, including Mwanza, Njombe, Geita, Kigoma, Kilimanjaro, Kagera, Shinyanga, Dodoma, Morogoro, Simiyu, and Ruvuma. The findings informed recommendations for improving FP programming and policy options in Tanzania.
